Steve Scalise has been called the best example of what it means to be an honest public servant. He has worked for comprehensive ethics reform to make government more transparent. He was a leader in the fight for levee board reform and tax assessor consolidation. Steve fought to cut wasteful state spending and slush funds in the state budget. When an elected official is found guilty of political corruption, taxpayers still have to pay for their retirement benefits. That's about to change.  Steve Scalise, with support of the Jindal administration, is leading the fight to take away taxpayer funded retirement benefits from any public official convicted of political corruption.

As our Congressman, Steve Scalise has laid out two plans for ethics reform at the federal level. Steve plans to ban cash contributions in federal elections. Current federal law allows federal politicians and candidates to accept cash contributions. Scalise has pledged never to accept a cash contribution, and will file legislation to completely ban cash contributions at the federal level. Cash contributions provide too many opportunities to corrupt the political process.

Scalise also plans to pass comprehensive earmark reform. In Louisiana, Scalise was the lead co-author of landmark legislation reforming the earmark process to provide full disclosure of taxpayer dollars in the budget process. Earmark spending is out of control in Congress and has helped lead to a bloated federal budget. As your Congressman, Scalise will file legislation to require full disclosure and comprehensive reform of the earmark process.
